Camomile is native to most of Europe. It is an excellent herb for many digestive disorders, for nervous tension and irritability. The oil is applied to affected areas externally and because of its anti-inflammatory and soothing action it is good for sunburn and skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. When massaged into the skin in the bath it is an analgesic for nausea, fever and anorexia nervosa. It is a decongestant and has anti allergic properties. Add 5 drops of camomile to a bowl of hot water to wash the eyes or to inhale in cases of hay fever. Traditionally it was used to massage newborns and toddlers as it relieves colic, prevents skin problems and has sedative properties that help to relieve pain when teething. For period pains and stomach cramps, apply and massage gently, like the waves of the sea, from top to bottom and can also be used as a warm compress. Add it to the bath water to treat insomnia. For muscle spasms in the neck and shoulders, apply and massage. For an itchy scalp or dandruff apply and massage into the skin before shampooing.
